- I lost someone very special to me.but as a recreation sure Share this post Link to post Share on other sites myNUTSonTHEtable 11 Member Members 11 178 posts Posted July 27, 2010 · Report post gambling is a sickness, just like addition to drugs, alcohol, etc..you hear about AA alcoholics anonymous, NA narcotics anonymous, and gamblers anonymous falls right in line, the only difference is gambling is the most socially acceptable one of the 3 Poker is great as a social game you play maybe a few hours here and there or with your friends at a home game but to try to earn a living off of poker is very foolish..even those who take poker very seriously and treat it like a job face practical problems like health insurance, dental insurance, steady monthly income, paying rent instead of a mortgage (the best known place in vegas is Panorama Towers where most, if not all, of the poker players there pay rent, not mortgages..while this may be smart (vegas property values are far from steady), they are essentially throwing money away which they could be investing (if nothing else sitting in the bank collecting interest) How many 'jobs' are there where you can work really long hours (marathon sessions) for a month and owe your employer money at the end of the month..?
